5 Exterior Plywood Grades
From marine grade plywood to cabinet grade plywood, there is a wide arrange of wood type and grades that determine how resistant they are. A-A) Being the top wood quality, you will not find any grade above this one. You will probably realize that A-A grade plywood will come with a higher price tag compared to the other grades, but it provides you with the best resistance against moisture or infiltration.
A-B) Not very far below, you will find that A-B wood types are also another resistant plywood. This plywood has been also finished and sanded on both sides, but the difference between this grade and the one above, is that the former has both faces free of blemishes, while the latter may have one face a bit discolored or marked.
A-C and A-D) You might realize by now that this grade has only one side finished and sanded. You can find this easily in jobs or constructions where only one visible side is needed. It is also as resistant as the previous grades.
B-B) Not as strong as A grade types, B-B plywood can be used in jobs where both sides will be visible. This plywood is commonly found with both sides painted to hide minor defects and blemishes that might appear in your plywood.
B-C and B-D) These are quite similar in appearance with the A-C or A-D grade plywood. They will have only one face finished and sanded while the other side is left alone. These can also be found on construction sites or temporary space where the appearance does not matter to anyone.
